Dear Reader.
Revan Jonathan Dias Bandaranayake Fernando, passed into the loving arms of his Saviour Jesus Christ on February 10th, 2025 after a long and brave battle with illness.
He leaves his light burning within us, challenging us to be as gracious, as generous and as strong and fight life’s battles, as he did, and in doing so bloom into “The Righteous Oak” as we all were meant to in time.
Revan was born on December 15th, 2002 to his mother Ruvini Dias Bandaranayake and his father Michael Rohan Dmitri Fernando in Colombo, Sri Lanka. In his formative years, Revan resided with his family in New Albany, Ohio in the United States of America. Subsequently, upon his return to Sri Lanka, Revan went on to complete and excel in his academics and sports alike. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed swimming, soccer and basketball. He was a gaming afficionado and was the dependable tech-guru for all around him. Revan was also exceptionally gifted academically.
He was fun loving and intelligent but it was his thoughtfulness and generosity extended to others that have touched all who have known him. He loved to help others, often spoiling his family, relatives, friends and loved ones with gifts, an act of love he put much thought and time into.
Revan was a patient and thoughtful brother; a loving and warm son to his parents; the pride and joy of his grandparents; a role model to his younger cousins; an inspiration to his relatives and a confidante and comrade to his friends.
Though many obstacles stood in his way and his journey was hampered by life-threatening illness, Revan was diligent and pursued his dreams quietly. His inherent brilliance and effort were rewarded when he was accepted to study at the University of Buckinghamshire where he pursued his degree in Computing. Cancer could not keep him from pushing the limits on achievement.
He braved the last two years of his life in such a way that all who have been around him, have only lasting memories of the incredibly intelligent, generous and erudite young man he was, even as he fought the fight of his life for survival, “The Righteous Oak”.
We take comfort in knowing he is safe in the arms of Jesus and will remain our guiding light until we meet again. A race well run, a battle fought valiantly!
Love.
