The journey begins

Watch/Listen: Launch Event Of  The Righteous Oak held on Feb 10th, by clicking here –

ACCOMPLISHMENTS –

  1. The Righteous Oak project was launched with an objective to support children’s health and well-being.
  2. The official website, therighteousoak.org, was also introduced, and its design/framework was explained in detail, highlighting how it aligns with the objectives of the project from a requester and provider standpoint, while outlining the due diligence measures in place to ensure transparency and clarity of support from a global perspective through the simple #3 step process being outlined.

PLAN/NEXT STEPS –

#1. Good to have features –

  •  Prayer requests – agenda to be included in the monthly event.
  •  Crowdfunding – The hope is to utilize existing crowdfunding platforms to raise the remaining funds for specific cases, such as a child needing a significant amount for treatment.

#2. Monthly recurring events/meetings –

  1. One of the key objectives is to review and discuss the requests received alongside the support extended, thereby maintaining transparency throughout the process. All of these events/meetings will be broadcast live on the events section of The Righteous Oak website.
  2. Next Steps – Gerard will share a few proposed time slots for the recurring monthly meeting, ensuring they accommodate participants across different time zones.

#3.Requests –

1. The requesters listed below are kindly requested to submit their requests via the email address provided on The Righteous Oak website by clicking on the ‘Request’ button.”

  1. Hirush, a student pursuing O levels, seeks financial assistance for a four-year IT diploma course as he aims to become a software developer. The cost of this course is 50,000 Sri Lankan Rupees (approximately $165 USD) per month.
  2. Pushpita, a student currently pursuing O Levels, is seeking assistance with a laptop (even a used laptop), which will support his aspiration of becoming a software engineer, as well as financial assistance for his A Level fees. At present, Michael is supporting him in completing his O Levels by providing a smartphone and assisting with house rent to ensure continuity of his education until the completion of his O Levels.

2. Next steps – Abhi and Michael will review these requests and see in what best way they can support these requests, and Bryce will explore the possibility of securing an internship opportunity for Hiruch at an IT company during the 2.5–3 month gap following his O Levels, which is the waiting period for his results. This would help him gain relevant industry experience.

3. Both Hirush and Pushpita are encouraged to help at least one other child once they are successful and financially stable.

#4.Coordination –

  1. As per Michael’s suggestion, he will set up a WhatsApp group to streamline coordination efforts, given that it is a convenient platform for his audience.
